Distance shouldn't decide who gets to read in Spanish

Spain’s Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports runs a broad network of Spanish schools and education programs around the world, aimed at keeping the connection to the Spanish language and culture alive among students, faculty, and library staff, wherever they are.

Offering that access consistently wasn’t simple: it required a single digital library service capable of putting Spanish-language books and audiovisual resources within reach of the entire international network, regardless of which country each school was located in.

The real challenge went beyond access: the platform needed to be simple and intuitive enough to build a genuine reading habit, support teachers’ and librarians’ daily work, and enable collaborative activities between schools that would reinforce both the Spanish language and the connection to Spanish culture.

A catalog that grows with every reading club

eLeo was born as the digital library

designed to make studying, reading, and discovering Spanish culture possible from anywhere on the planet.

Its catalog now brings together more than 9,600 multi-format Spanish-language resources, including ebooks, audiobooks, and audiovisual content, constantly refreshed through themed campaigns and recommendations from notable authors, so the offering stays connected to what’s being taught in the classroom.

On the technical side, the platform is designed so digital lending, catalog browsing, and participation in reading clubs work equally well from any device. Underneath it all, an advanced BI Advanced analytics tool translates real usage into indicators that help the Ministry make better decisions about the service itself.

The real driving force behind the project, though, is people: centralized management from the Ministry, sustained by the direct involvement of teaching and library staff, who turn every reading club and themed campaign into a living activity, in and out of the classroom, all year long.

eLeo

Our students show real enthusiasm and full engagement in the different clubs and in the activities and projects we run around reading. The eLeo platform has been a turning point for our Reading Plan

Congratulations on the resource, I think eLeo is a really interesting platform, not just for the books it contains but also for the variety of activities you can do with them.

“My students are more and more interested in reading through the platform. At our school, our principal has always promoted and encouraged reading with physical texts, and now we do it on eLeo. It’s a platform of real interest.”
